We have learned to coexist with the coronavirus for three months. A virus that, in addition to concerns about its spread, brought with it all kinds of rumors and gossip. One of these rumors was that patients with asthma and underlying lung diseases were more susceptible to the virus. However, this has not been proven in recent research by Iranian and American researchers, and perhaps these people have even a lower chance of contracting COVID-19.
It was March 2019 when the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran began in Qom and quickly affected almost all provinces. However, the spread of various rumors in cyberspace and some media outlets increased public fear of the disease. In the first days of the outbreak of this disease in the world, there was talk that asthma patients were more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 and even death. A rumor that kept these patients in eternal fear.
Asthma sufferers should take their medications
However, recent research by Iranian and American researchers has proven that asthma patients have a lower chance of contracting COVID-19.
Mostafa Ghanei, Secretary of the Biotechnology Development Headquarters of the Presidential Vice President for Science and Technology, stated that patients with asthma and obstructive lung disease should not stop taking their medications, saying: These patients should not worry and should not stop using their inhalers for fear of contracting the coronavirus. Research has shown that using corticosteroid spray does not increase the risk of contracting the coronavirus in patients.
According to Ghanei, these people can go to work and society like normal people, of course, by observing hygiene rules, and can use their inhalers without any restrictions.
